SCOTUS Decision Upholds Trump Travel Ban

Washington DC: On June 26, 2018 the Supreme Court of the Unites States (SCOTUS) in a
5-4 decision upheld President Donald Trump’s ban targeting travelfrom mostly Muslim
nations. SCOTUS walked a delicate line arguing the issue the court dealt with was related to
executive powers reserved for the president and not discriminating against a particular
religion. The decision has not only split the court, but also the country. Although we do not
agree with the judgement and see it as a mistake, we maintain America has a long tradition of
doing the right thing, if not today, in the future. As Americans, we must continue to learn from
this experience and continue to stand up for the values and ideals which America represents,
while always keeping the country safe.

Rep. Andre Carson has eloquently summarized the feeling of many Americans, “While
today’s decision is wrong, in the long arc of history the American people willfind a better
path.”
